Assistant Specialist

The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology in conjunction with the Department of Math at the University of California, Davis invites applications for one Assistant Specialist.

Position Description

Commitment Research (85%)

Data collecting, wrangling data and implementation of TDA suites

Data collection, wrangling, and preprocessing are key steps in the development of robust analysis algorithms and will be given high priority. Additionally, the implementation of methods within the TAaCGH suite, to analyze the cancer/viral genomic data, will be an essential part of the work. Implementation of these methods may require using/developing a variety of topological and computational approaches, as well as machine learning approaches. Keep a complete and detailed work notebook of computational experiments, methods and data. Archive, label and document data for publication, proposals, and/or presentations. All programs will be made available to the lab through Github.

The Assistant will be open to collaborate with other members of the group and contribute to solve the statistical/machine learning questions that arise in other projects.

Professional Competence (10%)

Manuscript/Report Preparation/Presentations Summarize data and assist writing manuscripts for publication and grant proposals. Prepare poster presentations for scientific meetings. Present research & contribute in regular lab meetings.

Service (5%)

Training Junior Scientists

Junior personnel will be recruited to the project and training in the use of currently available software, development of algorithms and in the statistical analysis of data.

Basic Qualifications

MA/MS in statistics or closely related field. Previous experience in data wrangling and statistical data analysis is required. Experience on topological data analysis highly desirable. The candidate will be very motivated, must have very good/excellent programming skills and be willing to share software/results publicly.

Salary Range

Assistant Specialist Step I-III $51,700-$55,000 [100% annual]
